New sleeping pattern...
sleep from 8PM - 3AM and remained up and started work day -
Worked "ok" Monday for work-however, felt a little tired after dinner and slept 9PM-2AM and went to bed at 4AM.
"OK" on Tuesday but late in waking up and getting to work-stayed awake after dinner only because Andy had Akiado and I had errands to do; but "crashed" as soon as we returned home (9:45PM) and slept to almost 4AM-stayed up and started day. Wednesday-OK at work (no class) and stayed awake until 11PM. Slept until 2AM and went to bed at 3:30-4AM. OK at work "Thursday" had class and "Back to School Night" but crashed as soon as I returned home late at 9:30PM and woke up at 1AM and went to bed by 3:45AM and woke up at 6:30AM.
"OK" at work Friday- cut crashed after returning from dinner at 10PM. Woke up at 1AM to finish laundry by 5AM and told Andy to wake mat at 6:30AM in order to get to his art class at CSULA by 10AM.
**Must retrain self to get up at 6:30AM in order to ge to work on time!
Week 6-12 retrospect...By now body seems to be able to operate on an inconsistent slep schedule-noting if I do go to bedI need to do soy by 3:30AM-4AM in order to wkaeup by 6:30AM. I am not falling alseep any longer on the drive home in the evenings after work since the weather is cooler. Nonetheless I still must catch up on most sleep on weekends-by sometimes sleeping in on Sundays.
In Power of Sleep it is recommended 2 hours of sleep for every 1 hour awaken so normal typical day: 6:30AM - Midnight (sleep time)
Since becoming a student (GSBM/01/00) 6"30AM-3Am). Then I started feeling the effects of sleep debt and could no longer stay up straight through the long hours after 2 semesters.
Crash schedule: 8PM-11PM (3 hours of sleep) or
9PM-11/12:30Am (3 hours) or
10PM-1AM (3 hours)
AND 3AM-6:30AM (3-3 1/2 hours)
----------------------------------------------
6-61/2 Hours sleep/per day (RECOMMENDED IS 10 HOURS)
Caffeine intake: M-F 4-6 cup (tumbler size) increase by 2 cups however due to stomach condition must cut back to 2-3 cups
Sat 1-2 (sometimes)
Sun 2-4 cups (8 oz)
Question: MIND OVER BODY OR BODY GOVERNS MIND?
The Brain is a dynamic organ. It has mystified science as to its complexity and diverse functionality.
So much research has been conducted in just brain devcelopment. We know it is the foundation for learning. we know the brain develops in stages and that during the developmental stage the wiring of the brain occurs which dictates how the brain will perceive data as well as store information and process this new information (social interaction).
Environment plays a major role in brain development and the overall learning process. Through a collaborative efforts of neuroscientists and brain scientists better underanding of how the brain controls and affects learning. Both the developing and mature brain are structuraly altered when learning occurs. Research indicates that these structural changes encode the learning in the brain: studies with laboratory mice have shown alternations in weight and thickness of the cerebral cortex of mice receiving stimuli from being exposed to an interactive social group of other mice. Nerve cells have increased number of synapses through which they communicate as a result of the learning of specific tasks affecting specific regions of the brain involved in the tasks. "Such findings suggest that the brain is shaped to a great extent by experience and by what a living being does and has done." (HPL pg126)

I'm on this voyage of discovery-what makes me "want to change" to be willing to reverse direction in my life and become a student once more?
Maybe the secret to life is we never stop learning for if we did or if I did then I know I would cease to be.
When I was in college I wanted to change the world. Once married and w/family I adjusted with the world and changing status quo was not as important. Now at (50) midway in life I am running to catch up. I see change as a natural process to life. There must always be change and we must learn to adapt. Life is too short to not be encouraged to succeed...to not try is to surly fail. "I am resilent...I am resourceful...I CAN SUCCEED!"

Just finsihed reading Chapters 8/9 HPL...am impresed and excited about the existence of all the interactive computer programs for implementation in classroom. However, realize the reality of these techno to happen is soley dependent on the teacher. Will inquire anyway about possibilities using "Thinker Inquiry Tools Curriculum" for my son's AP Physics and "Jasper Woodby Adventure" made for Ap Calculus and a smilar writing project like Masters, Mondrian and Me but for hs English as examplified by: http://www.barron.palo-alto ca.us/hoover/MMM/mmm/html
Aug 4 (Sunday)
Big day finally comes and I am off for my first vacation in 3 years of working for Pepperdine and a vacation since our last family trek to the Grand Canyon in 1994(?)
Aug 6 (Narita)
Lose Andy and Rex at airport upon landing at Tokyo. After speding 2 hours looking and paging discover that the 2 of them made their way to Henry's Mom's house. Once we made phone contact with Andy and Rex, Henry and I check into Htoel Narita Nikko.
Aug 6/7(Saigon)
check into the hotel Renaisance Riverside.Hotel room #602. Spent much time at their Business Center tapping into e-mails.
Had a 1 day cooking class on local Vietamese cooking: stuff tofu pouches, shrimp soup, fried Morning Glory Greens & Carrots (Sukimono)
That afternoon took local site tour. Guide was most helpful, a young man named Hugh and his driver was a Mr. Henry.
Visited lacquer factory-very poor working conditions-unbelievable for the 21st century standards!
Conclusion of visit: Vietman is country with "new" history but no identity. City of Saigon is 7 million plus of which 5 million were actually born in Saigon and where 40% of population is between the ages of 25-32. Also there is 4 million motor bikes.
One biggest complaint with Saigon and maybe with the rest of the country is "No smoking sections" for anywhere public!
July 16-19
Had some trepidation about Virt Camp...everyone was kind and very helpful. Only did I have some reassurance after speaking with Prof Sue Talley. Left camp feling somewht confident. felt better after making e-mail contact with Neena. She really is my strong "link".
Margo, Tom, & Arthur were just great as our Lego team slowly emerged as the week progressed. Need to e-mail Margo as I think she feels lost like me especially with the techno part.
July 22-31
So much to get organized-so much to review. Busy trying to find group home page to order books. Feel time is running our. Bought "Playful Worlds" at my Barnes & Noble. Ordered "When Things Begin to Speak" and "Web Design" from Amazon.
Contacted TG-no luck (with software program). Told to contact Matt M-however Matt was too busy. Finally referred to Gerry F. and he suggested Dreamweaver (online) course through Smartforce however, had too many probelms logging on. Now really feel time pressure tyring to finsih up at work and with semester project.
Thank goodness for Darlene (IT) she gives me disc to install Frontpage and now Gerry has assured me he will help me with an initial web page when I return from vacation. In meantime tried to set up Flash and Java-but too complicated for now.
discover ed resource to order Microworlds for VirtPet project. Had missed that info from Prof Fisher but found it after the fact.
This week am feeling more positive toward my web site as far as "ftping" new pages including hperlinking until I tried this Blogger. Oh well back to the drawing board.
Anyway was getting more sleep as I was beginning to "DREAM" so I must be entering those last 2 critical hours of REM. Also, am noticing better re-call abilities. Just wish I had more time to devote to my studies. Always so much to read , little time to reflect, and hardly any time to SLEEP.
Had rain this weekend and how refreshing it was not to have to water the lawn. However, I did have to sweep up all the sycamore leaves that had fallen during the rainstorm and was now covering the driveway and "clogging" the drain for the runoff.
